I graduated with my psychology degree from Appalachian State University. I am currently working on my school counseling degree with Liberty University.
Experience
I recently completed a year of service with AmeriCorps City Year at an elementary school with 1700 hours. City Year is a non profit organization where young people give a year to work within the classroom to close the achievement gap and reduce the drop out rate by identifying early indicators. Within this year, I helped improve students MAP scores in Math and Reading. I helped a student improve 13 points! I also helped students with attendance and behavior issues. With being a first generation high school and college graduate, I understand the difficulty to overcome challenges and obstacles. At Liberty University, I have a 3.8 GPA. I understand what it takes to be a successful student. For the past three years, I have further my counseling experience by serving as a mentor to a 15- year-old girl. Our activities revolve around homework completion, recreational activities, and discussing issues, such as peer pressure and bullying. By actively pursuing to be a positive role model for my “mentee,” she has been helping me understand what a positive role model should look like. Everything I have engaged in so far has all been driven by my passion for youth.
