Experience

EC Teacher, CMS, 2005 to Present (10 years) Certifications: Special Education General Curriculum K-12; Middle Grades (6-9) ELA, Science, Social Studies Continuum experience: Resource level, Co-taught inclusive classroom and Consultative level IEP Case Manager for 14 areas of IDEA recognized disabilities 2014 Teaching Fellow, Charlotte Teachers Institute, Published Curriculum with CTI and Yale Education Initiative Accepted for 2015 cohort of Teaching Fellows, Charlotte Teachers Institute I want to be a tutor because I understand that all students can learn. Often students need additional time with a professional in a difficult content area. The personal, one-to-one time can make a significant difference in how a student grows to understand the material. It allows for questions a person might not be comfortable asking in a larger classroom. This opportunity leads to that wonderful "lightbulb" moment of progress.

Hobbies

I am an avid reader and writer. I enjoy being outdoors hiking, kayaking, camping whenever I can. I enjoy the mountains, creeks, wildlife, flowers, trees and rocks. The beach is a joy. I have two almost grown children, both pursuing their passions through education, art, work and service (AmeriCorp, MCC and UCC) Animals are also a part of my family. We have a dog, a cat and a grand-dog, as well as, several niece and nephew dogs and cats. I enjoy visiting and contributing to no-kill animal rescue organizations in Charlotte and Asheville. Laughter is essential. I am attempting to learn the ukelele, renew my piano skills and would very much like to throw some clay on a wheel and make a bowl or two. Life is meant to be an adventure!
