Education

Bachelor Degree in Mathematics with a Minor in Psychology, University of North Carolina-Charlotte, 2013

Experience

As a Mathematics Major who formerly spent half of her middle school Math-years in a foreign country, I can attest to the challenges a student can face learning this complex yet logical subject. I believe that it is often the perspective that requires a shift in order for a particular student to understand the question being presented and remembering the steps required to follow through with a solution. I have studied Calculus courses I through IV along with upper level Algebra courses such as Pre-Calculus and Linear Algebra & Matrices. I have also explored those such as Differential Equations, Statistics and Probability, etc... Alongside my passion for analyzing data and crunching numbers, my interest in comprehending the mind and behavior led me to obtain a minor in Psychology. I find that courses such as Child Psychology and the Psychology of Learning and Memory are particularly helpful in recognizing a student's learning capabilities based on his/her developmental stage and tailoring a study plan accordingly. I emphasize the difference in learning styles and quickly recognize a student's strengths that can be used to overcome challenges. I've spent the past ten of my working years in a fast-paced high-stress environment, also known as the Emergency Department. My passion for putting a smile on the faces of those, especially when they least intend on it, has kept me there while obtaining my degree in Mathematics. I plan on volunteering my time to fulfill the desire I have of lending a helping hand and making a difference to those in need. Although my most significant experience is in healthcare, I previously tutored a 7th Grade student who was at the time failing and on target to repeat his grade. After a few weeks, I saw a noticeable change in his outlook on attending school as a direct result of overcoming what I call "Math Anxiety". As he gained confidence in his abilities, his attendance and performance for myself and his teachers increased. This student passed his EOG Test!
