Private tutor in Charlotte, NC

Education

I am a senior physics and mathematics double major at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Currently I am going through the application process for graduate school where I will earn my PhD in physics. My overall GPA at UNCC is a 3.28, whereas my major specific GPA (my GPA from mathematics and physics courses only) is a 3.88.

Experience

My tutoring experience is not only extensive, but also contains a wide range of tutoring situations. So far I have worked as a freelance tutor for students ranging from middle school ages all the way up to undergraduate students. I have worked as a freelance tutor for courses as simple as Elementary Mathematics all the way up to courses as difficult as Differential Equations. In addition to my time spent working as a freelance tutor, I have also worked for multiple professors at UNCC as a teaching assistant. So far I have worked as a teaching assistant for Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Physics 1, and Physics 2. During my time as a teaching assistant my responsibilities included providing help to students during the class sessions, holding out of class tutoring sessions multiple times every week during the semester, grading papers, and even leading the class lesson on occasion. While working as a teaching assistant I found that the students who attended the after class tutoring sessions I held during the week made much better grades in the course than those who did not. In addition to the work I have done as a freelance tutor and as a teaching assistant, I have also worked with many students through other tutoring websites such as Wyzant.com. As young as elementary school I began to notice that many of my peers struggled with math and science. I would hear my friends and fellow students complain about their lack of understanding in the classes that I gained the most pleasure from. From such a young age, I decided I wanted to try and spread my love of math-based courses to others. I thought if people understood math better they would come to enjoy it more, so I began to explain the material to my friends in class. I saw the stress of my peers fall and the grades of my peers rise after my explanations ā€“ the feeling of satisfaction I gained from seeing others succeed with my help is what inspired me to be a tutor. In addition to helping people understand and enjoy a subject that is so dear to my heart, I also tutor as a way to prepare for my future. After graduate school I plan to work as a professor, therefore, while working as a tutor, I am learning the different ways students respond to teaching. I believe working as a tutor, in addition to bringing me satisfaction in the form of helping others, also teaches me many teaching strategies I will use in my future. I have enrolled in and aced numerous courses that have aided me in tutoring. This growing list of relevant classes is as follows: Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Pre-Calculus, Trigonometry, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, Calculus 3, Calculus 4, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra, Physics 1, Physics 2, Modern Physics, Quantum Mechanics, and Classical Mechanics. In addition to these courses I also enrolled in the following AP courses during my time in high school: AP Biology, AP Earth Science, AP Government, AP Physics B, and AP Statistics. In all of these AP course I made a 4 or better out of a possible 5. During my time in high school, like most other high school students, I took both the SAT and ACT. On the SAT I earned a 2100 overall. My score in reading was a 620, my score in writing was a 600, and my score in math was a 780. On the ACT I earned a 35 out of 36.

Overall I consider myself a well-rounded person; although I may seem shy at first, Iā€™m actually quite personable.
