Experience
I really enjoy helping people, especially children, learn, grow, and improve in the way that is uniquely best for them. I am currently pursuing a Master of Social Work, with the primary intention of working with elementary-aged children -- a goal further-strengthed by my additional current pursuit of a graduate certificate in the practice of Play Therapy. I have previously volunteered as a "Big" for the Big Brothers Big Sisters programs of Forsyth and then later Mecklenburg counties, and I will be interning at Alexander Youth Network, a local mental-health agency whose target clients are children and adolescents, come fall 2016. I have also previously shadowed a Montessori elementary school, observing and learning about that unique style of student-lead learning. With a bachelor degree also in Journalism and a strong professional background in writing for and updating various company websites, my greatest interests and strengths are in writing, reading, and computer skills. But with a strong academic background in general, I am also able to tutor in non-reading and non-writing elementary-level areas such as math.
